The brain is the complete male fruit fly central nervous system, MaleCNS v1.0 (HHMI Janelia, Cambridge, Google Research, CC-BY): 165,122 traced neurons and 6.2 million connections of 5+ synapses, simulated as leaky integrate-and-fire neurons. An alert is turned into a smell: its words are hashed onto the fly's chemosensory receptor types, which fire like an odor would. The connectome is frozen. The only trained part is a linear readout of spike counts, fit to verdicts from Intezer's Autonomous SOC on 12,700 real alerts. "False positive" here means Intezer decided no action was needed.
Across all 12,716 alerts, 5-fold cross-validated, the fly reaches ROC-AUC 0.887. The 24 alerts on this page were held out when the readout was fit, so what you see here is out-of-sample. They were also picked for variety across products, which makes them harder than average.
This is an experiment, not a product. The write-up covers what a scrambled connectome, a random reservoir and a plain linear model do on the same alerts, and why the answer is humbling for the fly.
